Legal Clinics supported by LawWorks Scotland

LawWorks Scotland brokers successful partnerships between advice agencies and member law firms or in-house legal departments with the aim of establishing legal clinics as a way of meeting legal need.

Once LawWorks Scotland brokers a match between a member law firm or in-house legal department and an advice agency, it will support them to establish an advice clinic staffed by volunteer solicitors working on a rota basis. LawWorks Scotland currently supports legal clinics in a number of Citizens Advice Bureaux and has developed active connections with a number of university legal clinics.

LawWorks Scotland has received positive feedback from the users of its legal clinics, CABx Managers and the solicitors involved in delivering pro bono advice. Based on the experience of developing clinics, LawWorks Scotland has developed ‘The Clinics Model’ which provides guidance and practical information to its members and advice agencies who wish to work in partnership to establish legal clinics as a way of addressing unmet need.

The LawWorks clinic model enables the provision of pro bono legal advice in an effective and efficient way, informed by experience acquired over several years. Provision of pro bono legal services in this way is sustainable, based on a partnership between frontline advice agencies and law firms and in-house legal departments which are members of LawWorks Scotland. Further, this model provides solicitors with an opportunity to gain pro bono experience with the support of LawWorks Scotland and its network of solicitors who have experience of developing and delivering pro bono legal clinics.

If you are an advice agency, a law firm or an in-house legal department interested in developing a pro bono legal clinic please contact LawWorks Scotland at:
